What is World Photography Day?
World Photography Day 2022 is a yearly celebration of the art of photography and its contribution to changing the world for the better. Photography is both an art and science. Science for the novice who needs rules and guidelines to master the craft, and art for the masters to carve out a niche, to put them far above everyone else.
The day also encourages photographers from the world over to share a single photo that best describes the world through their creative eyes. In case you want to participate, you can share your best photos on social media using the tag #WorldPhotographyDay.
Who knows your photo can make the cut and be featured on World Photography Daily, for the world to appreciate!
History of the World Photography Day 2022
August 19, 2010, was the first World Photography Day ever celebrated. On this occasion, almost 270 photographers uploaded their images to a global online gallery. People from over 100 countries saw and appreciated these images.
Why August 19 was chosen as World Photography Day?
It was on this very date that the French government bought the patent for the Daguerreotype method. This method was dubbed a “gift to the world” as it enabled the world to make detailed photographs without needing negatives.
