JALDOOT App: An App to Make Farmers Prosper and Villages Grow

On September 28, the Government of India launched the “JALDOOT App” and “JALDOOT App e-brochure” at a function in New Delhi.

The JALDOOT App is developed to capture and centralise the data on ground water levels across the country and use it in a better way.

JALDOOT App Providing Relief to Distressed Farmers

JALDOOT App: A Combined Effort of Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj

The Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj have jointly developed the JALDOOT App, which will be used across the country to capture the water level of selected two to three wells in a village.

JALDOOT App: Used in Online and Offline Modes

The app can be used in both online and offline modes. So, when the water level of a well is captured even when the internet connection is unavailable, the data captured will be stored in mobile and when the internet connection is available, the data will be synchronized with the central server.

Officers, who are named Jaldoots, have been assigned to take measurements of open wells in every village twice a year. Every year, the manual measurement of water levels will be conducted from May 1 to 31 and October 1 to 31.

After the collection of the data, it will be uploaded with geo-tagged images on the app. The data collected by the Jaldoots will be integrated with the database of National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC). Further, these collected data can be used for analysis and can generate various useful reports for the benefit of various stakeholders.

The country has taken many steps, like various watershed development, afforestation, water body development and rainwater harvesting, to improve the water management in both the rural and urban areas. But the ground water level has reached critical levels in many parts of the country, resulting in significant reduction of water levels triggering distress to farmers.

Thus, it has become necessary to measure and observe the levels of water tables across the country. The Government of India expressed that this app will facilitate in observing water tables across the country and the resulting data can be used for Gram Panchayat Development and Mahatma Gandhi NREGA plans.

The app will provide panchayats with robust data that can be used for better planning of works in the villages and can be used for different kinds of research and other purposes

• UMANG – This is a unified platform aggregating major government services, including important utility services, to simplify single point access through mobile app anytime and anywhere.

• Aaykar Setu – It is a free mobile application providing linkage to various services of the Income Tax Department through a single window.

• Swachhata-MoHUA – This app allows citizens to post a civic-related issue (like a garbage dump), which is then forwarded to the concerned city corporation and then is assigned to the sanitary inspector of the particular ward.

• Aarogya Setu – This mobile application was developed by the government to connect essential health services with citizens to combat fight against COVID-19.

• BHIM App – BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) is a mobile payment app developed by the National Payments Corporation of India based on the Unified Payments Interface. It facilitates e-payments directly through banks, driving cashless transactions.
